Leading Israeli courtroom’unable to rule’ on PM’s eligibility to form govt.

Israel’s Supreme Court on Thursday refused to rule on a petition by attorneys trying to stop indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from forming a government following looming elections.

The attorneys took their case to Israel’s highest court on Tuesday, asserting that Mr. Netanyahu’s indictment in November on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust must stop him from being falsified by the president to form a federal government.

However, the courtroom on Thursday said that it had been not able to rule the sensitive situation, stating the attorneys’ petition was”early”.

Israel faces a third general election less than a year on March 2, following federal polls in April and September failed to afford a governing coalition.

Reacting to the court’s conclusion, Ms. Gantz stated on Twitter”Netanyahu is going to be judged with the general public in the surveys, and we are going to win”.

Israeli legislation stipulates that a sitting prime minister is just necessary to step down after convicted and after all avenues of appeal are exhausted.

However, it doesn’t offer immunity against prosecution.

The petition is”in accord with the legislation… (also ) with the objective of continuing to serve you, for the future of Israel,” the premier said.

That petition is expected to delay the beginning of court proceedings for weeks, as lawmakers aren’t due to vote on the issue until after the election.
