Wagah is a village situated in Lahore, Pakistan’s Punjab state and Attari at India’s Punjab State across the Indo-Pak boundary.
Over 60 individuals, including women and children, were murdered in the horrific suicide attack on November 2, 2014 in the Wagah border on the side.
The obligation of the attack was maintained separately by the outlawed Jundullah and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.
“The Anti-terrorism Court at Lahore on Wednesday declared the verdict at the Wagah border bombings. It handed down death sentence to three suspects –Haseebullah, Saeed Jan Ghana and Hussainullah — on five counts and gave them a 300-year prison term and imposed a fine of $1 million on all these,” a court official told PTI.
The court acquitted three additional suspects giving them the benefit of uncertainty.
Over 100 prosecution witnesses testified from the accused throughout the trial which lasted over five decades.
The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan had told Dawn on phone from Afghanistan following the Wagah burst it had been completed by one of these guys.
Afterwards, Ehsan was detained by Pakistani security agencies but lately he was able to escape from their custody drawing criticism from the opposition parties.
At least 15 to 20 kg of explosives were used at the burst with a number of the explosives from the attacker’s suicide coat and the rest being transported by him.
The explosion at the Wagah crossing was a high-profile goal, with large crowds gathering daily to see an elaborate flag-lowering service as the boundary with India closes.
