With 29 consecutive times of walkouts, French railroad strikes against government plans to reform France’s retirement strategy marked a new landmark Thursday, exceeding the spans of strikes at the 1980s.

The nationally walkouts from the government’s retirement plans began on December 5.

On Thursdaythey exceeded a 1986-1987 railroad attack in strength, a walkout that continued 28 days in the SNCF national rail business.

The present strikes have crippled metro and train services in Paris and throughout the nation within the Christmas-New Year period and continue to cause severe disruptions. Only two automatic lines were operating normally from the Paris Metro, together with solutions spotty or non-existent round the remainder of the network.

Unions are gearing up for additional walkouts next week, when French colleges reopen and discussions are set to restart with the authorities.

At a New Year speech on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his commitment to the pension reform but urged his administration to”find the path of a fast compromise” with marriages.

Mr. Macron remained firm on the principles of the reform, such as its decried step: increasing the eligibility age for full pensions from 62 into 64.

He insisted that the new system will be fairer to all French employees and will be fiscally sustainable. The program aims to combine dozens of different pension systems into a single and remove Exceptional deals that allow a few French transit employees retire in their own 50s.
